New Music // Sons of Magdalene – Hold on Hold Still For A Second

28 Aug

Sons of Magdalene is the solo project of New Orleans producer Joshua Eustus, who’s also know as half of the electronic band Telefon Tel Aviv. Sadly his bandmate Charles Cooper died accidentally in 2009 which, needless to say, has altered the course of Telefon Tel Aviv.

Eustus has stated that after the release of his solo album as Sons of Magdelene, called Move to Pain, he would return full time to Telefon Tel Aviv once more.

Here on the track Hold On Hold Still For A Second, he channels the spirit of early New Order extremely well, setting a propulsive rhythm early, punctuated with staccato flourishes, providing the landscape for his plaintive vocals to soar above.

New Music // London Grammar – Sights (Until The Ribbon Breaks reimagining)

Until The Ribbon Breaks is the moniker for Pete Lawrie Winfield, a UK producer who’s achingly beautiful and bleak tracks, both original and reimaginings, are a must listen. Here he takes London Grammar’s Sights and makes it his own, to absolutely stunning effect.

“I wanted to imagine how the lyric ‘What are you afraid of?’ could be interpreted and reset musically. I thought of it as a question to a child.” ~Pete Lawrie Winfield
